Norris 22 Review By: I.Ball

Manufacturer: Norris
Plane Type: Infill
Model No: 22

The Norris steel shoulder rebate plane model number 22.

The Norris 22 has a malleable iron body, rosewood infill, rosewood wedge and shouldered plane blade.

The Norris 22 plane is another of the Norris shoulder plane range. The number 22 is quite similar to the Norris 7 with the main differences being the shape and the material.

The Norris 22 was produced in two different sizes:

    - 1 1/4" (32mm)
    - 1 1/2" (38mm)

The wedge is used to firmly secure the plane blade in the desired position.

A different shaped wedge or a wedge made from a different material indicates the wedge has been replaced. If the wedge is a different colour to the infill then this may mean the wedge has been replaced also.

The Norris 22 plane blade cutting section spans the full width of the plane with the bevel edge side facing upwards.

The plane can be used left or right handed and can be laid perfectly flat and used on either of its sides to trim rebates, shoulder lines and tenons.

There is an adjustable Norris 22 shoulder plane with a brass knurled nut on top of the infill. The adjustable model is the Norris A22 plane.
